Helping people find inner peace through alternative healing is the most gratifying part of Reiki master Wendy Ramsamy’s job.
The Westville mother of two children, who exudes serenity, has been practising Reiki — a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing — for six years.
The former personal assistant received her “calling” eight years ago after a serious car crash which, she says, “opened me up to a lot of spiritual things and showed me my true path”.
“I felt there was something missing from my life, and I needed to find it. I used to go temple-hopping, but that never filled the missing space.”
Then Ramsamy, 34, met a Reiki master and studied under her for two years.
“That’s when I realised that it was meant to be.”
She also armed herself with knowledge of alternative healing by reading extensively.
Ramsamy, who hosted the recent one-day Spirit Life Festival in the DLI Hall in Greyville, says Reiki is based “on the idea that an unseen life force energy flows through us and is what causes us to be alive”.
She says if people’s energy levels are low, they become prone to sickness and stress. But high energy levels allow people to feel healthy and happy.
She has turned her garage into her “healing space”, a tranquil area that is adorned with dream catchers, crystals and candles.
The smell of incense wafts through the room as she talks quietly about her healing techniques.
She is able to channel energy through the crown of a person’s head, which is then transmitted to the body. This helps to maintain high energy levels.
She shares her knowledge with her students.
But there is more to this multi-faceted woman than alternative healing.
Part of her life mirrors the Hollywood movie Sixth Sense, which told the story of a boy who claimed he could see and talk to the dead.
Ramsamy says she is also able to communicate with dead people and help them find a path to peace.
“It’s called spirit releasement, whereby the dark entities come to me for help.”
She also uses hypnotherapy to engage the spirits.
“Through hypnotherapy, I have found that a lot of people have entities attached to them, and when I am healing them, those entities pop out. That is when I work with the angels, who help to take the spirits out of the earth.”
She says working with troubled souls is rewarding.
“And, no, they don’t scare me. They are not here to harm us. There are always entities around, but we are not aware of them, and neither are they of us.”
She runs “angel workshops”, teaching people how to communicate with angels.
“When I teach Reiki, I bring through the angels, using candles and oils, and they are there to guide you through the healing process.
“My favourite is Raphael, because he’s the healer and hugely powerful. There is also Michael and Uriel, whom I use to connect with the earth and spirit energy.”
She also works with childhood trauma cases, including rape, sexual and verbal abuse, addictions and coping with death.
“Probably 95% of people living on this planet have trauma behind them. Through regressive work, I have found that people start manifesting trauma at the age of 30. If you take them back to childhood, you can pinpoint where it actually starts.”
She says emotions play a big role in the types of diseases that one suffers, and through alternative healing, the emotional stress is released.
